Widgey Nursing Pillows
FAQ

Most parents today do their homework thoroughly before going shopping, using the Internet, parenting magazine and website forums and listening carefully to recommendations from friends. Hopefully we can help answer some of your questions right here!

I'm hoping to breastfeed. Why do I need anything at all?

You will need breast pads-probably even before the baby arrives - and a breast pump (either manual or electric), which can help give greater freedom and even help increase your milk supply. You will need a nursing pillow and we recommend the Widgey® Nursing Pillow for maximum support. You will also need containers in which to store your milk.

How do I store my breast milk?

Breast milk is very precious and every drop counts. It can be stored in a fridge (for up to five days) and a freezer (for up to six months). You should never use in the microwave to warm up or thaw breast milk. Breast milk can also be stored in feeding bottles.

Will the Widgey® pillow fit?

The cut of the fabric allows the Widgey® to expand open to place around your waist. It is amazingly generous and will fit some quite large ladies. The Widgey® pillow will hold you, it is designed so that you do not have to hold the pillow. It is important to note that the Widgey® pillow is designed to hug you around the waist and combined with the very compact filling in the pillow provides a very firm pillow for the baby to rest on and you will generally find the baby’s mouth and your nipple are at the same height.

What if the baby falls asleep during feeding?

It is common during breastfeeding that the baby falls asleep whilst suckling. Often you mat think the baby has fed sufficiently but it may also be that the suckling has eased your baby off to sleep. As you are seated comfortably you can afford to wait a little time to make sure the baby is properly asleep or just dozing. The baby may then stir and begin feeding again.

Caesarean Birth

The Widgey® pillow rests on your upper thighs when you are in a sitting position. The weight of the pillow and the baby is on your thighs. No weight is on your stomach and lower abdomen. This is very important in the instance of a caesarean birth. Health workers and your midwife will recommend that no weight be on the lower abdomen following this operation whilst your operation heals and your muscles repair. This is a very firm pillow. You do not have to hold the pillow. The difference between this pillow and any other in the marketplace is the firmness and the freedom to breastfeed your baby in comfort, your comfort! It is absolutely pointless and uncomfortable to hold the pillow and your baby at the same time. Let the Widgey® support the baby and remember to relax back into your chair and set your shoulders back.

Our multi use pillow has many functions including pre-natal back support for you, optional between knees support whilst sleeping or as a wedge to rest under your tummy when sleeping on your side.
Rest your baby, within the curve, on the floor after feeding, prop your baby within whilst they learn to sit upright and cushion their fall if they topple over.
